Experiments in Natural Dyeing: Beets

Mordant Dye
  • 1Tbsp Pickling Alum
  • 1 Tbsp Cream of Tartar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 12 Beets – root only – chopped
  • 1/2 gallon water

Boil until color leave beets. Remove beets. Add mordant and fibers. Boil for 1 hour. Allow fiber to cool in dye-bath before rinsing.
